(00:00) An overview of these chapters.
(04:21) Nephi’s positive attitude contributes to who he becomes. He breaks his bow and makes a new one.
(07:32) Ishmael’s death causes many in the family to murmur.
(15:23) Nephi possesses the accoutrements of kingship, which may help demonstrate that he and his successors have the right to rule. The sword of Laban, the Brass Plates, and the Liahona may be associated with the Israelite Ark of the Covenant.
(24:26) Nephi is commanded to build a boat, but his brethren oppose him. The Lord shocks Laman and Lemuel into obedience.
(39:41) As they journey across the waters, Nephi’s brothers bind him with cords. After being threatened with death from a great storm, they loose Nephi’s bonds.
(42:58) These passages illustrate Nephi’s ascent. He becomes a king and brings his people into a state of abundance and fertility.
(44:13) Nephi makes a second set of plates for a wise purpose known unto the Lord.
(48:32) 1 Nephi 19.10 testifies that the ancient prophets saw Jesus in vision. Zenock, Neum and Zenos are examples of prophets who saw Jesus and his Atonement. Nephi quotes Isaiah 48-49.
(55:44) Israel will be gathered and saved in the last days.

I love this week’s lesson and how it talks about ancient prophets seeing Jesus in visions. I’m wondering if you (and Bryce) would mind sharing your favorite pictures of Christ! Either favorites you have in your home or have seen online anywhere (or the artist names) that either really strike you as an accurate portrayal of Christ or just your favorites! I’d like to have some bookmarked for lessons (I’m yw pres in my ward) and also to purchase for my home! Thanks in advance!!
If I was told to build a ship, my first question would be “how?” So I have wondered why Nephi’s question was regarding the materials he would need to fashion tools. I wonder if when he broke his bow and had to resort to making a bow of wood instead of one of a stronger material. In the breaking of his bow, Nephi knew the need for ore for proper tools because he had already established the lack thereof with the braking of his bow. FYI – I have been told that a steel bow requires a different type of arrow compared to a bow of wood. Hence, Nephi not only made a bow of wood but also needed to fashion an arrow. Certainly when the steel bow was broke, there were already arrows.
