Hi. I enjoy your show a lot. It’s helpful to me, as well, for the Sundays that I teach Gospel Doc.
Question: in the Acts 22-28 episode, you mentioned a book entitled “Church History. . . ‘something.’ I didn’t have a chance to jot it down and couldn’t find it in the Show Notes afterwards.
What is the full title of that book? And who wrote it?
Thanks!
Rich
Richard thanks for listening to the podcast!
The book is by Bruce Shelley and is called Church History in Plain Language.
Love your podcasts, you are a huge help in understanding the scriptures for my husband and me. In July 30-Aug 5 . Acts 22-28 you quoted Pres. Kimball talking about the apostle Paul. I can’t find that quote. Can you help me. Thank you. Taunya
Thanks for listening. The show notes are up and running now. We had a great listener let us know that the show notes were not working and it is fixed now. The quote by Pres. Kimball is on page 1 of the show notes. Here is the quote:
“I have a great admiration and affection for our brother Paul, our fellow apostle. He was so dedicated, so
humble, so straightforward. He was so eager, so interested, so consecrated. He must have been
personable in spite of his problems, for the people hung onto him with great affection when he was
about to leave them. I love Paul, for he spoke the truth. He leveled with people. He was interested in
them. I love Paul for his steadfastness, even unto death and martyrdom. I am always fascinated with his
recounting of the perils through which he passed to teach the gospel to member and nonmember.”
(President Spencer W. Kimball, Conference Report, April 1969.)
When Paul claimed to be a Roman citizen, how did they verify? We have ID cards, did Paul, Silas, etc. have a physical identifier?
I love listening to your podcast and reading your show notes! I love that you include important spiritual aspects of scripture study. I love that you include historical and academic background on the text. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for listening to the podcast. Check this out regarding citizenship status inquiries: https://www.vita-romae.com/roman-citizenship.html
The sources cited is probably where I would get into serious study. As always, check the sources! That is one reason I include show notes with these Old and New Testament podcasts.
