09:43 – In the Beatitudes found in Matthew 5.1-11, the Greek word, makarioi, is translated as “blessed.” Another translation of makarioi can denote “being in the state of the gods.”

13:27 – The Sermon on the Mount can be seen as a temple text that includes the 5 covenants in the temple endowment: The Law of Obedience, The Law of Sacrifice, The Law of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, The Law of Chastity, and The Law of Consecration.

18:14 – Jesus teaches a more holy way to approach the Mosaic command to not kill.

21:44 – Jesus teaches a more holy way to approach the prohibition of adultery.

23:16 – Jesus teaches a more holy way to approach divorce.

27:59 – Jesus teaches us to keep our promises and to honor our covenants and commitments.

30:48 – Jesus teaches us to “turn the other cheek.”

37:28 – Jesus teaches us to love our enemies.

42:00 – By following and trusting The Savior, we will become perfect, or finished.

Thank you. I hoped to find in your notes the information about turning the other cheek…regarding the right and left hands and the impossibility to use the left hand when the cheek is turned. Will you please send those details to me from your podcast?
    Eagerly waiting…

      Joanne,
Thanks for listening! The reference spoken of is in the show notes (page 4), but I did not type up the whole bit, it was rather lengthy. Click the link under footnote 11 in the show notes on page 4. Footnote 11 is a link to this post. You can see the notes for this podcast here. Much of this is from Walter Wink’s commentary as well as from Daniel Judd’s book Taking Sides: Clashing Views on Controversial Issues in Religion. I had a class with Dr. Judd at BYU years ago and was fascinated by this approach to the text. You can get a copy of Dr. Judd’s book here.
