  1. Please tell me where I can get more on the the clay to gold principle. You referenced. It sounds fascinating, yet, you didn’t give much detail about it.
Thank you and I LOVE the podcast!!!

  2. Once again I am touched by the Spirit. Thank you brethren for helping me in preparing for my 9 year olds. They mean so much to me and my teaching companion. Have a great week.

  3. This is always my favorite podcast. I listen to it weekly and often repeat listening. I wish I had heard these lessons back in the seventies when I first became active in the church. You have opened up so much for me. Hugh Nibley was my book of Mormon teacher at the Y. I hear echoes of his words when listening to you. At night I am listening to your Book of Mormon lessons before I say my prayers. Thank you so much for all your time spent

Thank you so much for the kind words! Hugh Nibley has been an inspiration to me as well. He has given us all so many threads to pull, threads connected to ancient ideas, many of which are touched by the revelations of the restoration, waiting to be explored.

  4. I have a clarifying question – your spoke of a concept of gold/clay and applied it to the old testament – hinted at some things in the new testament. If that is accurate then tell me how that can or cannot apply to the BoM or modern prophet teachings. Where is the balance. It is easy to say X, Y or Z of a previous prophet is Clay but everything of current prophet is gold. Until it is not.

Rich you are correct. Everything comes to us after the manner of our language. I think that this can be a great discussion, and that different people will have divergent views on where it shakes out, depending upon their life experience. We even see some of this in D&C 121 where we read that “we have learned by sad experience X…” In my mind, Joseph Smith learned many things in his experience in Missouri, and if he could, he may have done some things differently after that experience. That is my reading of the 1838 war.

      1. Thank you. I think you have a good perspective with the use of “we have learned by sad experience X…” I would like to know more of how you suggest the use of Gold vs Clay can be applied to current teachings of the Q12, FP [basically the Q15] and namely Russell Nelson. These men are all sustained as prophets seers and revelators then speak from that capacity. Jeremy Goff and his blog preach a very orthodox “Gold” perspective on everything they say. For example in a world of so much going on are we really to believe that the lords big gold issue is the word mormon? Is it herecy for me to say that seems very clay-ish? Do you see any current ideas teachings that are clay. Oh Oh just remembered 3 hour church, home teaching, baptismal witnesses – would you say those were clay items? What else could be clay?

  5. First, I love your podcasts.
Second, in the presentation on Section 89, you indicate that the acceptable sacrifice, or the offering in righteousness, is the book mentioned in Section 128:24. I don’t have space to develop my thoughts, but what do you think of the idea that the acceptable sacrifice (offering in righteousness) is a broken heart and a contrite spirit, out of which comes the book in the temple? It seems the structure of v 24 would allow a separation of the offering in righteousness (broken heart and contrite spirit) and the book (the result of humble labor), both in the temple.
    Just curious.

  6. My husband and I are wanting to get the transcript of the podcast…we are wanting to study the presentation more slowly … line by line …as it was presented. The ideas were fascinating and we want to digest it more…
I do not see that the transcript is available…
    Is it available someway?
Thank you for any help you can give us!!!

Dorothy, as of today, we do not have transcripts of the podcast, but the quotes are all in the “quotes and notes” pages. We are in the process of working to see if we can get transcripts of the podcast, but as of today, we do not have this option. Thanks for listening.
